David Stopps, the founder of Friars Club music events, is attempting to organise a worldwide simultaneous playing of Bowie’s iconic Starman at noon on Saturday.

Bowie, who died on Monday, debuted his world famous Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars album at Friars Aylesbury in 1972, as well as his Hunky Dory record the previous year.

He said: “In memory of David Bowie we would like everyone in the world who was ever touched by his art to play ‘Starman’ at 12 noon tomorrow Saturday January 16.

“We challenge radio and TV stations all over the world to do the same. Wherever you are, be it at home, in the car, at work lets make this a moment to remember the most iconic artist of the past 100 years.

“It’s already going viral and we’re hoping that it will all come together. We just want people, wherever they are, to listen to Starman at noon tomorrow as a way to celebrate his memory.”
