Music night thanks from baby's family

The family of a baby who spent his first three months in hospital have organised a fundraiser to say thank you for the support they received.

Dominik Pavlik was given only a 50-50 chance of survival after being born with a congenital diaphragmatic hernia - meaning there was a hole in his chest space and he struggled to breathe independently.

He was operated on at two days old at the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, with parents Laura Pavlikova and Branislav Pavlik told to prepare for the worst.

To ease their travelling problems from Preston to Manchester, they were given a room at the on-site Ronald McDonald House, which provides free ‘home away from home’ accommodation for families with children in hospital.

Now, with Dominik recovered from his operation and thriving at home, Laura and Branislav want to raise money for the Ronald McDonald House, and have organised a charity live music night in their honour.

“People think the houses are funded by McDonalds when they’re a charity relying heavily on donations”, said Laura.

She added: “The Ronald McDonald House in Manchester is really nice. It’s like a hotel room with a shared kitchen area, but we had our own cupboards and fridge freezer space. The staff were lovely and because we were in over Christmas, they left a present outside the door on Christmas Eve, and we got a balloon on Valentines’ Day.

“When you’re focused on a poorly child it was nice to have some normality, and even somewhere to do the ironing and make tea. It’s also somewhere for you to take visitors back to, being 30 steps away from the hospital.”

The fundraiser takes place at Ingol Golf Club on September 10.

Hybrid Flower Monkeys, a local cover band, will play from 7.30pm till late and there will be a buffet, raffle and disco.
