Motorway reopens but motorists face severe delays

The M6 in Lancashire has reopened following a serious incident.

However motorists are still being warned of severe delays.

The motorway has severe delays northbound between junction 32 - the M55 interchange - and junction 34 at Lancaster.

This is due to a serious incident earlier between junction 33 at Galgate and junction 34 which closed the road.

Highways England says the M6 is now open but that one lane, of three, remains closed at the scene of the incident.

Road users travelling on the motorway are currently experiencing delays of more than one-and-a-half hours to their journeys between junction 32 and junction 34 and are advised to allow plenty of additional travelling time.

The North West Air Ambulance attended the incident and airlifted away a casualty.

A diversion was put in place with traffic to follow the hollow triangle symbol.

Exit the M6 at junction 33 and take the A6 north via Lancaster, at the junction with the A683 turn right and travel east to re-join the M6 at junction 34.

Traffic heading towards the area is advised to allow additional travelling time.
