Motorist hurt while trying to change wheel

A motorist was hurt today when he got his hand trapped while trying to change a tyre on his car on the M6.

The incident happened at around 11.30am on the northbound carriageway between junction 32 at Broughton and junction 33 at Galgate.

Fire crews from Fulwood and Garstang were mobilised to the incident after being notified by North West Ambulance that a man had been attempting to change a flat tyre on his car on the hard shoulder of the motorway.

He had got his hand trapped between the jack and the car.

Firefighters used an inflatable air-bag to raise the vehicle and rescue the casualty, who was taken to hospital by ambulance.

The incident caused tailbacks and delays stretching back towards Walton Summit when officers dealt with the incident.

Traffic was moving freely again after the incident was dealt with
