Mixed views on plans for supermarket
Bosses at the supermarket giant want to gather public opinion during the session at St Mary’s Church Hall in Cop Lane, from 2pm to 7.30pm, before officially lodging plans for the 30,065 sq. ft store on the corner of Cop Lane and Liverpool Road.
Commenters on social media have revealed mixed views.
Andrea Elizabeth Anya Melling said: “What? Why more supermarkets? Local shops will be ruined. There’s Booths and Morrisons and the Co-op etc. Not needed especially as it’s quite expensive, if it was an Asda I’d be a bit happier.”

Mark Longbottom said: It’s a great idea. Name one shop that will be affected, apart from maybe the Spar.
Even the Spar is niche enough for people to may want to ‘nip’ in. Who ever said Morrisons would be affected...... Jees! The Co-op and Booths would not be affected either.”
David Hodson wrote: “Some short sighted people are saying local shops will close. We have only one local shop the rest are charity shops hair dressers and estate agents not forgetting food outlets.”
