Twenty seven girls will compete for the title of Miss Preston on Friday.
The final, to be held at the Playhouse Theatre in Market Street West, will feature the contestants in a catwalk show, wearing their own creations made from recycled goods.
It follows weeks of fundraising for the children’s charity Variety Club and interviews with organisers about entrant’s background and motivations.
Organiser Mark Jones said: “This is about as far away as a 1980s beauty pageant as you can imagine. It’s about finding an ambassador for Preston.”
There will be two categories - one for those aged 17 to 25, and another for girls aged 13 to 16.
The winner of each category will go forward to the semi-final of Miss England, as well as a third girl who is recognised for her work promoting the event on social media.
