Preston’s MP has backed a campaign to get British Sign Language recognised as a minority language in the UK.

Mark Hendrick is meeting with members of the Lancashire Deaf Rights Group and county council leader Jennifer Mein today to discuss the issue.

Around 30 members of the group are expected to attend to express their concerns including access to work and hospitals and barriers to communication and interpreters.

Mr Hendrick said: “I have convened this meeting so that the members can directly engage with myself and the county council leader and pave the way to improved services for all deaf people in Lancashire.”
