A shoplifter who stole almost £60 of meat has been ordered to pay for the goods he stole.

Martin Eltman, 38, of Moor Road, Chorley, pleaded guilty to two counts of theft when he appeared at Chorley Magistrates Court.

Both offences were committed at the Co-op store in the town.

Magistrates granted Eltman a six month conditional discharge.

He was ordered to pay £53.23 compensation to Co-op stores.

He must also pay a £15 victims surcharge, which will be deducted from his benefit payments.

No order was made for costs due to his limited means.
