The Mayor of Preston, Coun Veronica Afrin, has pledged her support to charity shops, including Age Concern Central Lancashire in Preston city centre.

Her high profile role means she needs to be well turned out but Coun Afrin buys plenty of her clothes from charity stores.

She said: “I’ve always shopped in charity shops and am well known by all the staff. I enjoy the relaxed, friendly atmosphere where customers feel free to chat with each other about their purchases. There are plenty of shop assistants who are very polite and have excellent customer service skills – nothing is too much trouble”.

Coun Afrin was involved with Age Concern Central Lancashire at its inception over 30 years ago.

She also volunteered in the very first charity shop in Preston, Sue Ryder on Friargate. She added: “I like good quality items, not necessarily designer but classic designs that will last for many years.”

Coun Afrin also donates items to various local charities.
