Man with cerebral palsy to walk a mile for Rainbow House in Mawdesley

Fraser Cash has been given specialist training at FitBox to build up his strength ahead of his planned sponsored walk from the gym in Roundhouse Court, Buckshaw Village, to the Green Man Statue, also in Buckshaw Village, which will take place on Monday July 9.All money raised will go towards Rainbow House in Mawdesley, where he gains rehabilitation and conductive education support.The 21-year-old, who lives in Warrington, said: “I want to raise funds for Rainbow House and also raise awareness of physical disabilities, by proving that having a disability doesn’t stop you from achieving anything.“I am excited by people’s interest and overwhelmed by the support everyone is showing, but I am also nervous due to the added pressure, as this is the longest I will ever have walked.“It feels awesome to be able to help others and raise money just by testing myself. I am totally surprised about the amount of support I am receiving. It will encourage me to think about future challenges for definite.”Sarah Webster, who has been training Fraser at FitBox, said: “Over the past 18 months, we have been working on Fraser’s strength, stability, mobility and stamina. He has athetoid cerebral palsy and so far, the longest he has walked with his walker is 0.4 miles. Fraser walking a mile is probably the equivalent of a non-runner running a marathon. Imagine being told you will never walk, and then making the decision to take on a mile!
