Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service had to deploy its rescue sled after receiving a 999 call at 3.11pm on Sunday.

The 999 call reported that a man was seen to jump from the dock side into the water and crews from Penwortham, Fulwood and Preston attended the incident on Mariner’s Way.

The rescue sled, a dinghy with a stern slope into the water to enable someone in the water to be pulled onboard, was launched to pull the man to safety before crews handed him over to paramedics.

A fire service spokesman said the man was conscious when he was rescued and although one man tweeted to say the man was naked, the spokesman said their logs on the incident did not confirm this.
