The 52-year-old man from Poulton suffered “extensive injuries” to his arm, pelvis, leg and head and police say he will need further operations due to the severity of the accident.

It’s after a Leyland Daf Flatback truck pulled over onto Redsands Drive, Fulwood, Preston, suffering engine trouble at around 3.20pm on Thursday afternoon.

The driver then climbed out the vehicle to attempt to fix the mechanical problem but as he did so the truck began rolling down the road.

The truck then smashed into a stationary BMW 1 Series before coming off the road and coming to rest in some road-side bushes.

The truck driver was immediately taken to hospital by ambulance from the scene as police closed both Longsands Lane and Redsands Drive for more than two hours.

Police could not confirm which hospital he was taken to but did say the man remains in a serious condition.
