A man had to be rescued from the sea just four hours into the new year.

Morecambe Coastguard rescue team and the Morecambe RNLI lifeboat crew were called to the stone jetty in Morecambe to help police following reports a despondent man had jumped into the water at 4am on January 1.

As crews arrived, the man had been rescued from the water by the ambulance service using a life ring and was being treated by paramedics.

Morecambe RNLI Lifeboat Operations Manager, Kevin Jackson, said: “This year we will celebrate 50 years of an RNLI lifeboat station in Morecambe and we are glad to begin the year with a positive outcome.”
