Man arrested for attempted murder in Lancashire

A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a serious assault in Lancashire.

Police have appealed for witnesses after a 21-year-old victim was attacked by a group of men wearing balaclavas and armed with weapons at about 11-40am on Sunday in Hebrew Road, Burnley.

He suffered a fractured skull, fractured eye socket and a number of slash wounds to his body and arms. Police say he remains in hospital for treatment and his injuries are not life threatening.

A 19-year-old man from Burnley has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and is currently in custody. Further arrests are expected to follow, police said.

Det. Insp. Mark Vaughton, of East CID, said: “We believe that this was a targeted attack on a man known to his assailants.

"This serious assault happened in the middle of the day and I would appeal for anyone who saw what happened or who knows anything to get in touch with the police.”
