John and Lizzie Collinson

As John is originally from Newcastle, Lizzie decided it only right to ask him out on a night around town and they hit it off.

After two years of secret planning, John, a railway engineer, whisked Lizzie away to Lapland.

She’s a huge Christmas fan and the surprise was perfect for her. Little did she know, however, what else John had in store.

She said: “The house of Mr and Mrs Claus was just as I had imagined – shelves of toys, a crackling fire and of course a huge Christmas tree. It took me back to my childhood.

“Before leaving John suggested a photograph in front of Mr and Mrs Claus’s tree which I thought was a lovely idea, so we stood back and asked the tour guide if he would take our picture.

“I faced forward and went to place my arm around John but struggled to rest my arm.

“When I looked over John was nowhere to be seen.

“As I looked down he was in fact in front of me on one knee holding up a ring and asking me for my hand in marriage – of course I said ‘yes!’.

Lizzie, an animal care instructor, said: “From the second we landed back in the UK I began planning every last detail for our big day and I turned my hand to crafting, something I had never done before, designing and making all of the necessary wedding trimmings for our big day.

The service was just as they had imagined and despite a brief mix-up over which hand to place wedding rings on, their day was perfect.

“It was the best night of our lives and one that ourselves and our guests will remember forever.

“We now look forward to the next exciting adventure in our lives as Mr and Mrs Collinson.”
