M6 closed in both directions overnight due to 'police incident' near junction 33

The M6 was closed in both directions while police attended a "concern for welfare" call near Lancaster last night (April 13).

The carriageway was shut between junctions 33 (Hampson Green Interchange) and 34 (Halton Interchange) at around 11.30pm.

Motorists were advised to avoid the area following the closure and a diversion was put in place.

Today (April 14), police confirmed they were responding to a "concern for welfare call" alongside traffic officers.

Following a two hour closure, the incident was "resolved with no issues" and the carriageway reopened shortly before 1.30am.
