Lisa follows her late dad in the London Marathon

Lisa Timms, of Penwortham, will take on the 26-mile event for the British Heart Foundation, in honour of her dad Paul, who died six years ago of a cardiac failure, aged 49.The event is particularly poignant as Paul competed in the marathon in 1995 and 1996 in aid of Alder Hey Children’s Hospital and Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham and gave his medals to Lisa and her brother Andrew,Lisa, 22, said: “My dad has run the London Marathon twice while I was a baby. He was not a big runner, but he id it to support Alder Hey, where my cousin, Matthew Timms, now 23, was when he was born. He had a life threatening heart condition.“I looked up to my dad and thought it was a great thing to do. He gave myself and my brother Andrew his medals. I will treasure that medal forever. It has inspired me as I want my own and we can have them together.“I decided that when I was old enough, I would sign up.“I tried last year, but there was a waiting list of 900 people, so I didn’t get in. Following my previous fund-raising for British Heart Foundation and my dad’s story, this year I got in.“I have done a couple of half marathons and my mum. Lindsay, has done a parachute jump. We have raised more than £1,000.”Lisa, who works for Discovery Vine Childcare, leading before and after school clubs, has spent the last three months training whilst she has been travelling in Asia, Australia and New Zealand.She added: “I think the marathon will be difficult but I am ready for the challenge. I have a lot of support.
