Local businesses are now selling these at £5, and all proceeds will go towards the project, titled Light up Leyland. The aim is to raise £5,000 to overhaul the display this year, with a system in place to raise more funds and improve on their lights year on year.

Coun Phil Smith, South Ribble Borough Council cabinet member for leisure said: “The Leyland town team are a shining example of how businesses can help themselves and improve the community around them. They have done a fantastic job on raising money to improve their Christmas lights and have been more than happy to share responsibility with the council.

“The council have produced a brilliant calendar for them to sell and we wish them the best of luck in reaching their target.

“I would urge the people of Leyland to support local businesses as part of the Be Local, Shop Local campaign which has proved to be very successful. If as many people as possible could buy a calendar to support the project, Leyland will become a place of bright lights and festive cheer over Christmas and one the whole community has worked together to achieve.”

Leyland town team is a group of businesses and independent trader based in Leyland who aim to promote and boost trade and local shopping in their town. The team have been hard at work bag packing and selling calendars, starting in June this year they have already managed to raise £2,000 towards their current target.

At the Leyland Food Fayre last weekend, they raised £337 on their tombola stall. Their next bag packing event is at Morrisons in Leyland on Sunday, September 20.
