Investment of more than £1m a year in South Ribble’s leisure centres has been approved.

South Ribble Council, together with its partner South Ribble Community Leisure, provides facilities at five different centres across the borough.

The money was approved as part of last week’s budget announcement, and includes more than £65,000 of improvements at Penwortham Priory Leisure Centre, and the upgrade of facilities at Moss Side Playing Fields for 2014/15.

Coun Phil Smith, cabinet member for regeneration, leisure and healthy communities, pledged that more than 100 clubs across the borough will continue to receive the help of external income generated by the council, and the council will continue to support community sports programmes and hold an annual sports awards.
