The Penwortham branch of food retail chain Lawrence Hunt and Co Ltd nominated the appeal as its chosen charity and donated £500 from carrier bag sales generated throughout the year. Annually the company gives each branch the chance to nominate a local charity to benefit from the carrier bag sales throughout the year. Kevin Hunt, managing director said: “Basically this is the result of 2016 carrier bag sales. “As a company we split £14,000 across our 28 stores and gave staff at each store the chance to nominate a local good cause in their community. “Each store sent back a nomination and we sent out £500 to each nominated charity and it was the Baby Beat Appeal who were nominated by the staff at our head office store in Penwortham.” The Baby Beat Appeal is a local registered charity, established 30 years ago, and aims to raise funds for the two maternity units and neonatal intensive care unit at the two hospitals which are part of Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Charity manager Karen Entwistle said: ”We are enormously grateful to Lawrence Hunt for their extremely kind and generous donation. “The funds will go towards one of our key projects, our Little Ted’s Appeal. “The aim of this project is to soundproof all of the delivery suites at the Sharoe Green maternity unit.” The appeal needs to raise £100,000 is required to soundproof all 12 rooms. With £65,000 already raised, it needs a further £35,000.
