An image of two suspected robbers who struck at a post office and brandished a hammer at a postmaster and his wife have been released by police.

Detectives are continuing to probe the robbery at a sub post office on Cleveleys Avenue in Lancaster.

It happened at around 5pm on Friday October 1.

Two men entered the post office and made demands towards the post master and his wife and fled on foot a short time later with a “substantial” amount of cash. They went in the direction of Morecambe Road.

Police would now like to speak with two men captured on CCTV as well as any witnesses who may have seen the two men in the area, one of whom was carrying a dark coloured bag.

Det Insp Jo Dent said: “This was a very nasty incident which has left the postmaster and his wife extremely upset and traumatised. Thankfully, nobody was injured during the robbery but it is imperative that we identify the people responsible as soon as possible.

“I would appeal to anyone who thinks they may recognise either of the men in the CCTV image to contact police. I would also urge anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area of Morecambe Road, near Scale Hall or Cleveleys Avenue on the day of the incident to get in touch.”

Anybody with any information should contact Lancaster CID on 01524 596528 or 01524 63333 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
