Last night saw Comic Relief back on our TV screens and dozens of Lancashire folk got in the spirit for the worthy cause.

Schools, shops and businesses across the county spent the day completing challenges while wearing the obligatory red nose.

Gemma McArthy, contact centre team leader from Vantage Toyota at Riversway, Preston, said staff at the motor group were getting into the swing of things early on.

“Over the past two weeks, 16 people have cycled the distance between Lands End and John O’Groats on a static bike that was kindly donated to us by the Fit For Less gym at the Capitol Centre.

“Mark Woodward and David Valentine completed 390 miles between them which was the most completed by anyone on the team.”

Also at Vantage was Andy Conway who was given a shave by the Gent’s Room, to rid him of his bushy beard and raised over £500 in the process.

“We also baked cakes and we raffled off a meal for two which was donated by Cornerhouse in Wrightington,” added Gemma,

As well as the staff at Vantage, Specsavers at St George’s Centre, offered Preston shoppers the chance to win a free sight test and pair of glasses by taking part in their ‘answer a silly question’ competition in exchange for a donation.

“And to get those smiles even wider, they also encouraged shoppers to jump into a special Specsavers photo booth to pull their silliest faces.

And while children and staff at Smartkids nursery, Bhailok Square, Fulwood, dressed up for the event, Goosnargh Oliverson’s CE School, Goosnargh lane, held their very own Great Comic Bake off.
