Cyclist, 87, dies after road crash on A6

An 87-year-old cyclist has died after being involved in a road crash on the A6.

Police are appealing for witnesses following the crash on the A6 in Bolton-le-Sands, near Morecambe, yesterday evening.

The 87-year-old local man was cycling on the pavement towards the direction of Carnforth at around 4.30pm on Friday when he fell into oncoming path of a blue Volvo XC70. T

he man sustained a serious head injury and was taken to Royal Preston Hospital where he died.

PS Rob Gomery of the West Road Policing Unit said: “This is a tragic accident where a man has sadly lost his life and my thoughts are with his family and friends. An investigation to establish how the incident occurred is underway and I would urge anyone who witnessed what happened to contact us on 101.”
