A chemical fire broke out at a Preston factory.

Firefighters from Preston fire service were called to a chemical fire at toiletries company, B3 International at Redscar Industrial Estate, Preston when a 700 litre vat of ethenol caught alight.

Station manager, Shaun Walton said: “The vat caught fire due to a process being carried out at the chemical mixing plant.

“Firefighters contained the blaze using foam and, thankfully, there were no injuries.

“However, due to the highly flammable nature of the substance we had to ensure that building was safe by ventilating the area.

“We also worked with our colleagues at The Environment Agency to ensure that any substance that might have leaked into nearby drainage systems was contained and there was no further risk to the public health.”
