British wrestling is returning to the small screen for a new 10-part series on ITV, filmed at the Preston Guild Hall.

The series will air on Saturday evenings in front of a live audience, 30 years after the original World Of Sport wrestling ended.

It follows a one-off special which aired on ITV on New Year's Eve.

Richard Simkin, head of operations at Preston Guild Hall said: “We’re delighted to have been chosen as the venue for this momentous event.

“We know there is an appetite for wrestling here and that the audiences in Preston will create a wonderful atmosphere for both the wrestlers and their fans.

“It’s fantastic to be back on ITV for the third time this year following the Ladbrokes World Grand Prix Snooker and A Night of Championship Boxing. My team and I are working hard to bring back top sporting events to the city and we’re proud to be able to add this calibre of event to our programme here at Preston Guild Hall.”

Between 1965 and 1985, WOS Wrestling became a British institution, creating legendary stars such as Big Daddy, Mick McManus and Rollerball Rocco. This new series is now hoping to create even bigger stars of the very best from today’s UK wrestling scene.

ITV said that the new show, WOS Wrestling, "will feature the very best of today's wrestlers from the current red-hot UK wrestling scene".

ITV Studios Manchester director of entertainment Tom Mclennan said: "Britain's wrestling scene is thriving and there has never been a better time to bring it back to ITV after a gap of 30 years."

The show is expected to kick off in late spring or summer this year.
