What better way to thank volunteers for their hard work than a black-tie dinner?
Bosses at Age Concern Central Lancashire organised their inaugural summer ball at the Hallmark Leyland Hotel to raise awareness of its services, as well as show its gratitude to its many volunteers.
Event organiser Ron Hutchinson says: “The summer ball was not about raising money – it was about raising awareness.
“We invited our supporters and suppliers, as well as the members of both Lancashire County and Preston City councils to thank them for their support also.
“We had never done an event like this before.
“But we thought it would be nice for the volunteers because they do so much and don’t ask anything for it.
“They do such an amazing job for us. In any organisation, especially charities, volunteers are the backbone. When you collate what they do, with their time and energy, their value is priceless.
“The other reason was to engage with our suppliers, as they only time we speak to them is via email.
“Both councils have been very important to us because it supports a lot of our services.”
The evening included a three-course meal and performance from the King of Swing Asa Murphy.
Ron adds: “We had top-class entertainment from Asa Murphy and an excellent three-course meal.
“With a black-tie dinner everyone raises their game. It was a very classy evening.
“The staff were very attentive and helped to put on a good do.
“Everyone who came said they really enjoyed themselves and are now asking for the next one.”
Ron adds Age Concern Central Lancashire is always willing to welcome new volunteers, especially to help out in its shops in Bamber Bridge and Lostock Hall.
He says: “We are grateful for any help – just one or two hours will be greatly appreciated.
“We need volunteers to help sort through donations and help to help on the shop floor assisting our many and varied customers.
“Age Concern places volunteers at the heart of its activities and full training and ongoing support will be provided.”
