The breakthrough came after detectives appealed to The Gazette's readers to help identify the man, who was seen in the water off Rossall beach at around 8am on Friday.

A spokesman for Lancashire Police said: "Further to our earlier appeal, the body found at Rossall has been identified as a 58-year-old man from Cleveleys."
