Police are investigating a firearms incident in which a man allegedly travelled by taxi, armed with a handgun, to threaten his landlord after being jilted from his accommodation.

Darryl James Riding, 28, of Chorley Road, Walton-le-Dale, Preston, has been charged with making a threat to taxi driver Maksud Mohamed that he was going to kill his landlord, and making off without paying a £25 taxi fare.

He is also accused of entering a building as a trespasser and possessing a firearm, namely a silver handgun, with intent to cause fear of violence to his landlord, who was named as Doctor Khumar.

The alleged string of offences happened on June 29 at Chorley.

It is understood the defendant had previously a flat in the Bolton area.

Riding entered no pleas when he made his first appearance before Preston Magistrates Court.

The magistrates bench committed the case to be dealt with at Preston Crown Court.

He will next appear there on July 15 for a preliminary hearing and is remanded in custody until then.
