Not many dog lovers can go into a bar where two of the beers on tap have the same name as their pets.
This is what happened when Alan and Carol Chapman called into the Gregson Centre with their two greyhounds, Juno and Ella.
When Alan and Carol adopted retired racer Ella they struggled to think of a name for her.
But then they saw that the Borough Brewery had a beer called Ella and they were immediately taken with the name and the beer too!
Alan and Carol, who live in Lancaster, then told the Borough’s brewer, Rory Walker, about their new dog’s name and he promised to return the compliment by naming his next beer after their other greyhound, Juno.
Juno is also an ex-racer who was adopted from Animal Care, Lancaster, last year, while Ella was adopted from South Lakes Retired Greyhound Trust in Witherslack, Cumbria in July.
Rory was true to his word and the Gregson on Moor Lane has recently been serving both Juno and Ella beers at their bar.
“Not only were we able to enjoy these two delicious beers but we could also tell our friends that Juno and Ella could be found at the bar at the Gregson and were very popular with the customers,” said Alan.
“It was a very nice gesture from Rory to add Juno to his list of excellent beers alongside Ella. It was also great that the Gregson, a regular supporter of local breweries, had both beers on at the same time!”
But Alan said the greyhounds themselves were less impressed.
“They were only interested in the dog biscuit box behind the Gregson’s bar!” he said.
The Borough Brewery is located in the cellar of The Borough pub in Dalton Square and opened in autumn 2013. It produces beer for the Gregson, the Borough and the Snug at Carnforth Station.
