A Lancashire youngster has qualified for one of the most prestigious awards on the equestrian calender.

Katy Connon, from Clayton-le-Woods, has beat off competition to take part in the prestigious Horse Of The Year Show. She will compete for the title in the autumn.

It’s like a dream come true. I’m a mixture of feelings, of being ridiculously proud of how well Puzzle has done to get there and feeling so excited that I’m actually going,

She qualified for the event in the Riding Club Show Horse class, at the SEIB Insurance Broker’s Search for a Star 2015 qualifier, held at Osbaldston Riding Centre in Lancashire.

She said: “I’m absolutely over the moon to get through to Horse Of The Year.

“I’ve always wanted to ride with the music and lights which they have.

“Now, not only do I get to go, but I get to do it on my pony of a lifetime.”

Connon has owned her pony Puzzle since the age of nine.

“I only really got into showing because of Puzzle, I did it as a kid but then turned to dressage.

“I bought Puzzle with the intention to do a bit of everything and thought I’d give showing a go last season.”

On getting to the event itself, Katy is excited at the prospect of going for the big prize with her dream pony.

“It’s like a dream come true. I’m a mixture of feelings, of being ridiculously proud of how well Puzzle has done to get there and feeling so excited that I’m actually going,” she said.

In order to build up to her big day, Katy said she will
enter herself and Puzzle for a number of shows in order to get them used to the big atmosphere that awaits the duo in just a few months time.

Excited Katy will compete at the SEIB Insurance Brokers Search for a Star Championship finals at the Horse of The Year Show, at Birmingham NEC arena, from October 7 to 11 this year.
