‘Deliberate’ car blaze tackled

FIRE crews tackled a car fire on Watling Street Road, Preston, believed to have been started deliberately.

The blaze, at about 7.30pm on Sunday, was reported to police. Nobody was hurt.

Meeting date

THE next full council meeting of Preston Council is set to be held next Thursday.

Councillors will meet at 2pm at the Town Hall.

Help homeless hounds at fair

A CHRISTMAS craft and gift fair is set to take place on Saturday, from 10am until 3pm, in aid of Homeless Hounds. It will be held at St James Primary School in Slater Lane, Leyland.

It is to raise much needed funds to help find homes for stray and abandoned dogs.

Picnic quiz night

A FESTIVE picnic quiz will be held at Grimsargh Village Hall on Friday in aid of Dig In North West.

It runs from 7pm and quiz-goers are invited to bring along a picnic supper.

Charity event

A RACKETBALL event will be held at Leyland Leisure Centre on Sunday, from 11am, in aid of Heartbeat. Call John Gibson on 07970067703.

Panto tonight

THE Mayor of South Ribble, Coun Graham Walton, will attend the St Ambrose Players panto at St Ambrose Church Hall, Leyland, tonight.

Festive fun with Santa Claus

PLAY games, make Christmas crafts with the Park Rangers and sing festive carols with Father Christmas himself this weekend.

On Saturday and Sunday between 1pm and 3pm visit Avenham Park Pavilion to have tea with Father Christmas this festive season.

Christmas party

THE annual Cotton Court Christmas party takes place at Glovers Bar on December 5.

The event is free but attendees are encouraged to bring a gift to donate to charity, Barnardos UK.

Digital drop in

A DIGITAL Drop In event will be held at Longridge library every Thursday between 10am and 12pm for those who need help with their digital devices.

Village party fun

THE Tanterton Village Centre Christmas Party will be held on December 14 between 12pm and 2pm. Cost is £2.50 per child.

Booze problem at playground

REPORTS of groups drinking alcohol and engaging in anti-social behaviour on the children’s playground at Smiths Recreational Ground, George Street, are being investigated by police in the Avenham and Frenchwood area of Preston.

Inconsiderate parking in George Street is also being looked into.

Cash to keep the cows away

COUNTY Coun Kevin Ellard has approved a Local Member Grant for £275.60 to Friends of Brockholes Nature Reserve towards the cost of building a concrete reinforcement wall.

The wall will keep a herd of English Longhorn Cattle separate from nests and eggs of breeding wading birds in the same meadow.

Carol concert

LONGTON Community Church is hosting a Christmas Celebration at Preston’s Guild Hall, from 6.30pm on Sunday, December 21. Free entry. Doors open at 5.45pm.

Mouth cancer action month

THE oral health promotion team at Lancashire Care is raising awareness of the importance of being able to recognise the early signs and symptoms of mouth cancer as part of mouth cancer action month.

The campaign is running throughout November and focuses on the slogan ‘If In Doubt, Get Checked Out’.

Christmas in the garden

VETERANS’ charity Dig In is inviting people to mark Christmas in its walled garden at Ashton Park on Saturday.

From 10am until 2pm there will be host drinks and mince pies on offer and stocking fillers on sale, including the charity’s calendar created by its veteran team throughout the year.

Industrial fire

FIRE crews were called to tackle a fire involving an industrial tumble dryer at Sunlight Service Group Ltd, based at Chorley North Industrial Park in Chorley in the early hours of yesterday morning.

RSPCA to host festive party

TICKETS are still available for the RSPCA Preston Branch Christmas party that will be held at BAE Sports and Social Club, Preston this Saturday at 7.30pm.

Tickets cost £10, including buffet, with proceeds going to the branch.

DROP in to Brockholes Nature Reserve to learn how to make a Christmas wreath this Saturday and Sunday.

No need to book, just come along between 10am - 12pm and 1pm-3pm. £5 per wreath

Railway demo

RAIL Union RMT will hold a demonstration at Preston railway station on December 10. Demonstrators will meet between 5.15pm - 7.15pm

Embroidery fun

CELIA Whittaker will host an embroidery workshop at the South Ribble Museum and Exhibition Centre on December 6.
