Today, the Evening Post launches our campaign “Lancashire: Giving the gift of life” to recruit organ donors.
The season of goodwill may be over but we want the people of the county to show the generosity they are known for by giving the greatest gift of all – the legacy of life.
In the past five years, 55 people from Lancashire have died while waiting for an organ transplant.
Our goal is to get at least another 2,016 people to sign up during 2016 as donors.
Today, we show the positive face of organ donation in the form of beaming nine-year-old Jack Johnstone, who has returned home after a double lung transplant.
Jack, of Hoghton, near Preston, has cystic fibrosis and his lungs had deteriorated so much that without a transplant, Christmas 2015 would have been his last.
Mum Tina said: “Someone, somewhere made the decision to donate, which gave Jack his new lungs, and I will never be able to express how thankful I am they did that.”
