Lancahire X-Factor star Paul Akister has become an internet sensation after performing a duet with a lad he bumped into in the street.
A funny video of 16-year-old Adam Greenwood’s ‘duet’ with the crooner has become an internet smash with more than a quarter of a million views.
Adam, who works at Costa Coffee in Morecambe, said: “Me and Paul should enter The X Factor next year...with a bit of remixing I think our song could win it!”
The cheeky teenager stopped the X Factor soul man on Market Street in Lancaster city centre just before Christmas. He asked Paul to sing a song with him, then filmed what happened next on his phone.
Adam, wearing a Christmas jumper, launched into an off-key rendition of ‘All I Want For Christmas’ by Mariah Carey as a smiling Paul looked on, bewildered.
When Adam asked why he wasn’t joining in, Paul replied: “I can’t compete with that!”
Adam carried on filming as the singer’s attention turned to another passerby, Sandra Davies.
Sandra, 70, a volunteer at St John’s Hospice, had spied Paul in the street while out shopping. The Lancaster pensioner asked him for a photo and told him she blamed Louis Walsh for his X Factor axe last month.
When the TV talent show contestant finished his conversation with Sandra, his attention returned to Adam who carried on singing Mariah Carey, badly! The star saw the funny side and told Adam a few days later that he loved the video. And Adam has even had the chance to walk in Paul’s famous shoes, as he himself has been stopped in the street and recognised since the video went viral.
