Kitchen up in smoke after oven fire

A kitchen was full of smoke after an electric oven set on fire.

Fire crews were called out to Alert Street in Preston at around 10.35pm last night and arrived to find the homeowner outside the house.

The woman had been instructed by North West Fire Control to leave the property for her own safety, closing any internal doors on her way out.

A team of two breathing apparatus wearers entered the property and using a dry powder extinguisher extinguished a fire which had started inside the internal fittings of an electric oven.

The oven unit and surrounding frame was then removed and placed outside by firefighters.

Further investigations will now be carried out by specialist officers although the cause of the fire is not being treated as suspicious.

The property was heavily smoke logged and a ventilation unit was used to remove all the smoke.

There were no smoke alarms fitted in the property at the time of the incident.
