Jury considering verdict in David Edwards murder trial

His wife Sharon Edwards, 42, of Parkers Wood Close, Chorley, denies his murder at their home on August 23 last year and has been on trial at Manchester Crown Court for two weeks.

The jury retired to begin deliberations on Monday afternoon.

Mr Justice William Davis reminded jurors to approach the case with an open mind and reminded them the burden of proof is on the prosecution, adding the primary issue is whether the knife entered the 51-year-old’s chest due to a deliberate act by Sharon Edwards, who insists he “walked onto” the blade as she held it.

However, he also addressed them about evidence defendant Sharon Edwards had given in the witness stand which she had never mentioned to police officers.

Last week, when asked about how Mr Edwards could have come to suffer other recent injuries found on his body, she told the court he “self-harmed”, even though it was never mentioned in police interviews.

The seven women and four men on the jury will resume their deliberations on Tuesday.
