The caring eight-year-old from Walton-le-Dale agreed to donate almost half of her gorgeous 33-inch locks to be made into wigs for youngsters who have lost their hair.

Sehr had 15 inches snipped off in support of the Little Princess Trust.

And she followed in the scissor marks of a real life royal, the Duchess of Cambridge, who had her hair cut for the same worthy cause. It was the first time since the age of two that Sehr had even had a trim.

“She loves having long hair,” said mum Naz. “She says it’s the one thing that people recognise about her. Normally she hates the thought of having it cut.

“But she had read about the Little Princess Trust and how they use donated hair to make wigs for children who have lost theirs during cancer treatment or other conditions. And she just felt she wanted to help them.”

Local hairdresser Kim Wilson set to work on the delicate task of clipping Sehr’s hair, removing almost half.

Her donation, together with more than £1,000 raised from family and friends, will help the charity provide at least three wigs, possibly four.

But it wasn’t all plain crimping as mum Naz explained. “Sehr gets really upset if you mention getting her hair cut,” she said. “So she was very, very nervous waiting for it to be done.

“She has been growing it since she was a baby and she was two the last time she had it cut and that was only a tiny trim of around an inch. So this was a big thing for Sehr and she dealt with it very well.”

The idea came after Naz had a chat with Sehr about having her raven locks shortened.

“I told her it was very long and it was getting hard to manage,” said mum. “It takes ages to get her ready for school in a morning.

“I said what about donating it to the Little Princess Trust. It’s a very worthwhile cause. Sehr read about the charity and she just decided she wanted to do it.

“She is an intelligent child and very mature for eight. She understands and is excited that she’s helping another little girl or boy who hasn’t been very well. I’m just so proud of her.”

Sehr’s family set up a Just Giving page to help raise money for the Little Princess Trust. Donations currently stand at almost £1,200. To help go to: www.justgiving.com/fundraising/sehr-ajaz
