Today’s Ben-my-Chree 8.45am sailing to Heysham and 2.15pm service to Douglas have been cancelled.
The decision not to sail was made due to the forecast adverse weather, combined with a temporary reduction in power to one of the vessel’s bow thruster units, which are used for manoeuvring in port.
The cause of the temporary power reduction is under investigation, but is believed to be due to an electrical control fault.
Manannan’s 7.30am sailing to Liverpool was delayed to accommodate passengers from the cancelled 8.45am Heysham service, departing at 8.20am.
The cancellation and delayed departure is expected to lead to a short delay of approximately 30 minutes on Manannan’s Liverpool to Douglas sailing at 11.15am. Passengers are asked to check-in as normal.
Passengers booked on Ben-my-Chree’s 2.15pm Heysham to Douglas sailing are asked to contact the Reservations Team on 01624 661661 after 9am to transfer to an alternative sailing.
Manannan’s 3pm sailing to Liverpool and 7.15pm return to Douglas will depart as scheduled.
A decision on Ben-my-Chree’s 8pm sailing to Heysham will be made by 5pm.
Isle of Man Steam Packet Company Chief Executive Mark Woodward said: “We would like to apologise to all affected passengers for any inconvenience these cancellations may cause, but safety is our primary concern and it would not be safe to try and manoeuvre Ben-my-Chree in Heysham port during the forecast adverse weather while her bow thruster power is temporarily reduced.”
