Nick Westell spotted the duck wedged in the sand as he walked his shepherd cross dog Skye on the beach near his Sandylands Promenade home this morning, March 17.

Nick, 40, said: “In the six months I have lived here I have found about 30 golf balls on that stretch of beach so at first that’s what I thought it was.

“Then I got closer and realised it was a rubber duck. It’s got bits of barnacles on it and definitely looks like it has been in the sea for some time.”

The duck has faded wording printed on the front saying ‘World Record Duck...Ireland’ and after some searching online Nick found a rubber duck race which was launched at the River Liffey in Dublin, Ireland, in June 2006.

He also found a story online about another of the ducks, which was found in Orre, in south eastern Norway, after nine years.

“It was a bit of a coincidence that I found it on St Patrick’s Day,” Nick, who works from home in financial markets, added.
