Injuries as train hits buffer at Preston station

A number of people have reportedley been injured after a train hit a buffer at Preston railway station.

Northern rail said “an incident took place at Preston station shortly before 15:00 GMT and “a very small number of people have been injured”.

A Northern spokeswoman said: “A full investigation will be carried out.”

The incident is understood to have happened as the 14.47 GMT train from York was pulling into platform 3C. James Roskell sent in this image of the train.

British Transport Police said some passengers “had received minor injuries and were seen to by paramedics.”

The Rail Accident Investigation Branch “will be carrying out preliminary examinations,” a spokeswoman added.
