Members of the African and Caribbean community celebrated their rich heritage through the annual Black to the Future event.
The evening, to mark Black History Month, highlighted the achievements of several members of society and included displays illustrating some of the contributions made to the development of mankind by people of African origin throughout history.
Amongst those celebrated were Phil Duncan for his contribution to Preston’s Caribbean Carnival and former wrestler and the city’s first black publican Henderson Duvall, who died in 2013. Sir Mark Hendrick, Preston MP, was also honoured.
Christina Cooper, of Black History Group, said: “We seek to educate the next generation to value their African heritage and inspire them to fulfil their potentials. The event was inspirational to individuals in this amazingly diverse city of Preston.”
