Hundreds hunt Pokemon in Preston parks

Dressing up as their favourite creatures from the game, more than 350 ‘trainers’ walked around the city’s town centre and parks all to play new world-wide gaming phenomenon, Pokemon Go.

It was all part of a ‘pokewalk’ event which started in Winckley Square, made its way through Avenham Park before the gamers headed to Roper Hall pub.

The game has taken the world by storm with it being installed on more Android smartphones in the US than the smash-hit dating app Tinder, according to data from website SimilarWeb.

For those that don’t know, here’s how it works: As you walk around, reality is viewed through your phone screen as almost – but not quite – the same as it is with your bare eyes.

If a Pokemon happens to be lurking nearby, your phone will buzz. Then it’s time to catch it by throwing a Poke ball - on your phone, not in reality.

And organiser, 27-year-old Thomas Walton, from Penwortham, said the “fantastic event” went smoothly.
