RNLI volunteers launched a hovercraft to help rescue a woman with an injured ankle in Morecambe Bay on Sunday.

The Coastguard called volunteers to help paramedics close to the Silverdale coastline, just after 2pm.

The RNLI crew rendezvoused with paramedics, who had walked out to the casualty. The hovercraft crew were on standby close to the woman, to ensure she and the paramedics were able to return safely back to land.

Morecambe RNLI hovercraft volunteer Mark Bateson said: “With the North West Ambulance Service paramedics, we were able to resolve a potentially dangerous situation.

“Even on a nice sunny day the conditions underfoot are hazardous and it is easy to injure an ankle.”
