Firefighters were called out to a blaze in Ingol in the early hours of the morning after a bin fire spread to an empty house and neighbours had to be temporarily evacuated.
Two fire engines were called out to the property in Tag Croft at 2am after the bin was set on fire and then pushed against the wall of the house.
As the fire spread to the property, neighbours had to leave their homes on either side of the premises as the crews fought the blaze.
Gas officials were also called out to isolate the gas source for fear of a possible explosion.
Watch manager Barry Hornsby said: “It was quite a significant blaze.”
It is understood that CID at Preston are investigating the incident.
