A CARE home has been ordered to make urgent improvements by a health watchdog after it failed in a number of areas following an unannounced inspection.
Lake View Nursing Home, in Chorley Road, Withnell, near Chorley, was visited by the Care Quality Commission in March and a now a 26-page report outlining the shortfalls has been published.
The watchdog found that the home, which is run by European Care Limited, was failing in the following categories: care and welfare; management of medicines; safety and suitability of premises; staffing; assessing and monitoring the quality of service provision and records.
Inspectors raised concerns about cleanliness, dementia suffers being left unattended and staffing levels at the care home. Today bosses at the home said they have already put in a plan of action to tackle the issues highlighted by the health watchdog.
In its report the CQC said: “The comments we received about people’s experience of living at Lake View were mixed. We found that suitable and safe medicines storage arrangements were in place.
“We found that some medicines records were not completed properly. We saw that some areas of the home were untidy and unclean.
“Some areas were in need of repair and upgrade. Most people who used the service, staff and relatives told us there was not enough staff to meet the needs of people living at the home properly.
“We saw that some people who lived on the Ashlea unit (for people living with varying degrees of dementia) were left unattended for short periods of time. We saw that some audits were taking place but it was evident from the issues we found at the home that effective systems were not in place to ensure that people living at the home were receiving appropriate care, and were kept in a safe environment at all times. People were not protected from the risks of unsafe or inappropriate care and treatment because accurate and appropriate records were not maintained.
A spokesman for the home said: “We are working closely with the CQC and other authorities. We take feedback from the CQC very seriously and following their inspection in March we immediately put in place an action plan to address their concerns.
“The health and wellbeing of the people we support is our number one priority.”
