But in a city familiar with tweeting inanimate objects, it was given a voice on the popular social media site.

Middleforth Post Box (@MiddleforthB), took to Twitter to jolly up the Royal Mail, after being missing for six weeks.

"Dear Head of @RoyalMail", it said, "I am in your hospital with a broken leg. Why does it take that long? Middleforth residents getting angry."

And now at long last, after over eight weeks, the box has been painted, and returned to its rightful place on Marshall's Brow.
