Home at last: The tweeting Penwortham post box

Penwortham residents thought that the last post had been played for their beloved letter box after its stand rotted and was taken away over eight months ago.

But in a city familiar with tweeting inanimate objects, it was given a voice on the popular social media site.

Middleforth Post Box (@MiddleforthB), took to Twitter to jolly up the Royal Mail, after being missing for six weeks.

"Dear Head of @RoyalMail", it said, "I am in your hospital with a broken leg. Why does it take that long? Middleforth residents getting angry."

And now at long last, after over eight weeks, the box has been painted, and returned to its rightful place on Marshall's Brow.

"Good news folks. I'm back home," tweeted the box, just in time for a busy Christmas.
