Historic Lancashire church to reopen following major repairs

St Michael & All Angels Church in Croston, which has undergone major repairs to its roof and floors, will reopen for the event on November 25 and 26.

The aim of the project was to eradicate death watch beetle that had badly affected roof timbers and replace damaged and compromised timber in the roof and floors throughout the church.

Work on the £335,0000 scheme - of which around £230,000 came from the Heritage Lottery fund - started on June 5 and will be completed this week.

Visitors to the special weekend will be able to see the completed works and improvements. There will be a programme of music in church on both days involving local schools and choirs, as well as guided tours and photographs of the work.

On the Sunday at 3pm the Bishop of Blackburn will lead a service to mark the reopening. Over the next few months, an educational programme, open days and events are also planned.

Church warden Andrew Marston said: “The Church has been at the heart of our village for centuries and it’s great to know that it is now preserved for future generations.”
