Preston’s Heartbeat charity has applied to County Hall bosses for nearly £14,000 to help kit out its new base.

The Evening Post launched a campaign in September to raise £37,000 for the charity, which is moving from Harris Park, Fulwood, to the former National Football Museum in Deepdale.

Now Heartbeat, which provides rehabilitation, education and research for heart patients in Lancashire, has applied to local member grants to help fund equipment for the new centre.

The charity has applied to 10 county councillors for help with the funding, asking for a total of £13,895.

So far Heartbeat has had six responses – five of which were successful – amounting to £1,849.

The charity’s chief executive Jill Rogerson said: “Heartbeat applied for the grants from LCC to gain localised support for its new Heart centre, a centre that will support residents from all of the localities that the local member grants support. Heartbeat has historically not received any local grant funding despite delivering services to Lancashire residents for over 35 years.

“The charity has been self-funded since its inception but is now working hard to find the final part of the funds for the centre.

“We are grateful for any contribution that our local councillors are able to make and we look forward to receiving the outcome of all our funding applications to help with our move.

“One in four Lancashire residents will fall victim to heart disease, one in three in our BME communities, it is the UK’s single biggest killer.”
