A health watchdog has issued two warning notices to a Lancashire hospital following investigation visits.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) has demanded that University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay takes action to improve patient monitoring and ensure patients are not placed in mixed sex accommodation.

The CQC says the trust must improve standards of care or face further action.

Debbie Westhead, North West regional lead for the CQC, said: “As part of our investigation into emergency care, our inspectors found failings in the way patients are monitored Royal Lancaster Infirmary and Furness General.

“We also noted patients are not always afforded privacy and dignity and are placed on mixed sex accommodation in the clinical decisions unit at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary.”

The trust says it is taking actions to resolve the issues.
