Have your say on council's wide-ranging services review

Around 1,000 responses have already received since the launch of a public consultation on May 18.

The review looks at options including closing libraries, day centres and other council-owned buildings as the cash-strapped authority seeks to make savings.

Officers have drawn up a preliminary list of 220 premises – libraries, childrens and young people’s centres, offices, day care centres for the elderly and disabled and conferencing facilities – which could raise up to £14m.

Most responses so far have been received via the county council website www.lancashire.gov.uk.

It also features an interactive map highlighting the proposed changes.

The consultation runs for 12 and half weeks.

Under the plans, services would be brought together to form a network of multi-functional buildings known as Neighbourhood Centres.

They would provide a base for a range of different services in one place.

County Councillor David Borrow, deputy leader of Lancashire County Council with responsibility for finance, said: “Through the property strategy we aim to ensure that we have the right buildings to provide good access to good services, with a significantly reduced budget.”
