Councillor David Borrow, deputy leader of Lancashire County Council, has declined the opportunity to help fund a Preston-based hate crime organisation.

Coun Borrow rejected a Local Member Grant of £600 to the Independent Hate Crime Hub CIC towards the cost of delivering a three-month casework service for the victims of hate crime.

In total the organisation needs £5,400, with the hope of helping the problem of under reporting of cases and providing support alongside the police.

So far, the organisation has helped 2,400 people in the local area.

Coun Borrow said the reason for the rejection is because the he wishes to hold his remaining funds for other organisations.

Each county councillor has a budget of £3,000 per year to award under the grants scheme to benefit residents from within their electoral division.
